Italian Grand Prix: Race preview
F1 certainly returned with a bang following the mid-season break, fireworks at Mercedes and a second victory in succession for Daniel Ricciardo. Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg came together, and the fire was stoked when Hamilton claimed Rosberg had admitted in a post-race meeting that he deliberately chose not to avoid contact.
All of the focus will remain on the two main title contenders, especially if they line up side-by-side for the run to the first chicane at the start of the race at Monza, while Ricciardo will be hoping for more controversy at Mercedes to allow him to close in further at the top of the standings.
Last race; While not usually a race that suited Red Bull, last year’s Italian Grand Prix saw Sebastian Vettel take a comfortable victory from pole position. The most successful driver at Monza is Michael Schumacher with 5 wins. The most successful team at Monza is Ferrari with 19 wins.
