Fouth Annual Eastern Cape Women in ICT Awards
August 27, Imbizo Events in partnership with the Black Information Technology Forum (BITF) hosted the 4th Annual Eastern Cape Women in ICT Awards at the Regent Hotel in East London.
The event was held to recognise and celebrate women in the ICT and Broadcasting fields for their immense contribution in the industry.
The aim of the awards was to recognise potential, encourage a new generation of female ICT professional, networking amongst the women in the industry, provide mentorship opportunities and award talent.
Outreach & Stakeholder Relations Committee Chairperson, Ms Nokuzola Ehrens said; “Women are no longer supporting roles instead they have become the leading roles. When you educate a woman, you educate the whole nation”.
“It is high time that [we] as women we speak up and pull together in making sure that technology reaches the women in the rural areas and actually educate them about the ICT and Broadcasting fields,” said State Information Technology Agency (SITA), Government Relations Officer, Ms Nogolide Nojozi.
There were 11 nominees and 7 were awarded. Department of Economic Development and Environmental Affairs (Information Systems), manager, Ms Penelope Holder said; “For these nominations we were looking for the wow factor in the profiles of women working in the industry”.
The winners are Zandile Potelwa, Nomaci Qabaka, Ziyanda Kiviet, Tembela Somotombo, Tash Smit, Tembisa Rusi and Luke Tswakai.
Datacentrix, accounts manager, Ziyanda Kiviet said; “I feel so proud of being recognised as it shows that I do have an impact in the industry”.
