BCM Metro backtracks on R1.1bn write-off

April 1, 2015, the Buffalo City Metro (BCM) council was reported as having backtracked on a decision to write off more than R1.1 billion in irregular expenditure. The accumulated expenditure dating back to 2012 is said have been written off by council per Municipal Public Accounts Committee (MPAC) recommendations.

“The bill includes the controversial awarding of R27 million across two tenders and R13.9 million in councillor’s salary increases…” according to the local daily.

MPAC acting chairwoman, Nontsikelelo Peter told the daily; “There was a view from Audit-General that the committee must make sure there is an investigation and this must be documented.” -DD
