Fallen police officer remembered

In remembrance of fallen colleague, Warrant Officer, Sipho Buti, the Cambridge Police station held a memorial plaque unveiling ceremony at the late officer’s site of death on March 24.
The [would-be] 43 years old officer died in the line of duty December 20, 2010. Buti was killed in the line of duty, whilst responding to an alleged robbery at a spaza eResting, Scenery Park.
According to eyewitness Mzwanele Silimela, upon Buti’s arrival his killers refused to comply with his directives and an altercation ensued.
Faced with odds of 7:1, two among the seven culprits drew knives, managed to disarm and stab the warrant officer several severe wounds. Sipho Buti died a few metres away from the site of the incident. The perpetrators were later arrested and sentenced.
Buti was Sector Manager of the Resting neighbourhood. Residents and officers joined hands to commemorate and celebrate the officer’s contribution to the SAPS.
Among the dignitaries in attendance were ward Councillor Ncumisa Mekane and Cambridge SAPS Station Commander, Nomso Sganga, who described Sipho Buti as a man who would do anything for the people he served.
The slain officer is survived by his wife, Thandi Buti (42), and three children; Pamella (25), Ath’enkosi (10) and Lithamandla (7).
